After you are in US

Keep your passport, I-20, I-94 safely

Get a state ID or drivers license. This can be used as an ID through out the US. You do not need to carry the passport everywhere

Make a note of the expiry date in the I-20. You cannot stay in the US beyond that date even if you have a valid visa. You will need to get an updated I-20 as you get to the expiry date

Scan all your documents and store it SECURELY somewhere online. This can be used in case of an emergency

If your passport is going to expire during your stay, you need to get it renewed by contacting your nearest Indian embassy in the US itself

It is good to reach the university a few days before the reporting date so that you can get an advantage in terms of time for applying for on-campus part time jobs. The on-campus job is not only a financial help it definitely is part of the learning experience in the US. The skill set you acquire cannot easily be acquired by just attending classes. You will learn a lot about the United states and can blend in more easily by interactions in the job. One area international students lag behind is the people experience which of course can be learned over time by interacting with your classmates and friends but the learning curve in a part time job is quicker and better. People who have been raised in the US have done odd jobs right from their high school and that skill is invaluable when you start your career and you should start try to complement their skill set by doing any possible part time on campus. Most of the jobs that are done by part time students are not demanding in terms of time and workload. The best place to start looking for one is talking to students already at the university.
